First Gentleman of South Carolina
Michael Haley became the first gentleman of South Carolina when his
wife, Nikki Randhawa Haley, was sworn in as the state's 116th governor
on January 12, 2011.
Mr. Haley graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte
with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He completed his
officer basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia, and his area of
concentration at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
The first gentleman is a combat veteran having spent 11 months in
Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring
Freedom. He has previously served with the South Carolina Army
National Guard as a platoon leader, executive officer and commander of
an area support medical company. As a military technician, he has
worked as a management analyst, state equal employment manager,
strategic plans and training officer and human resource manager. Prior
to his military career, he worked in the family business as a buyer
and manager and later started his own finance business.
The first gentleman's initiatives include overseeing the Governor's
Mansion Commission and Foundation, actively participating with Youth
Challenge and supporting other at-risk youth programs and advocating
for South Carolina's foster care and adoption services. He currently
sits on the board of the American Red Cross, the South Carolina
Military Museum Foundation, and is the Chairman of the First Spouses
program in the BE SAFE AMERICA preparedness campaign.
The Haley's have two children, daughter Rena, 16, and son Nalin, 13.
The first gentleman is an avid sports participant and outdoorsman.

Rena is 17 years old and is in the 12th grade. She enjoys being a varsity cheerleader and spending time with family and friends.
Nalin is 13 years old and is in the 8th grade. He is an avid basketball player and also enjoys time with family and friends.
Simba is the family dog. He is a Shar Pei.
Nalin cares for two red bellied frogs, LeBron and Dwyane.
Rena enjoys and cares for her goldfish, Paige.
