Gov. Sanford Calls on Senate Conferees to Provide Immediate Relief

Governor Says Providing Immediate Tax Relief Important Step Toward Looking Out for Taxpayers

Columbia, S.C. - Gov. Mark Sanford today issued the following statement on the property tax relief proposals House and Senate conferees are meeting today to reconcile:

"With nearly $1 billion in new money coming into Columbia this year, we've put forth a number of proposals for returning some of those dollars to hardworking South Carolinians, whether it's been through income tax rebates or suspending the gas tax," Gov. Sanford said. "As the House and Senate property tax conferees meet today, I'd call on the Senate conferees to move in the direction that a number of those in the House have proposed in providing immediate tax relief to the people of this state. While we believe ultimately that more needs to be done on this front, returning $117 million to taxpayers in the form of property tax relief would certainly be a step in the right direction."
