Governor Sanford Issues Statement on Tom Davis’ Departure

Columbia, S.C. - March 19, 2008 - Governor Mark Sanford today issued the following statement on his Chief of Staff, Tom Davis, leaving his post with the administration and returning home to Beaufort County.

“For the last six years, Tom has been one of the brightest, hardest-working and most trusted advocates for positive change that I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. His willingness to make personal sacrifices in advancing ideas that would better people’s lives defines the notion of servant leadership that our administration has been about from day one,” Gov. Sanford said.

“Tom has been indispensable to both of my campaigns for governor, and he’s been on the front lines for every one of our administration’s successes. Whether leading the legislative push for historic charter school reforms and cutting income, property and sales taxes -- or heading up the negotiations for our state with Georgia to bring a port to Jasper County, Tom has consistently done the heavy lifting that goes with big ideas and conservative change.

“Tom has my profound thanks for his years of dedicated service, and more importantly for his years of trusted friendship. I am sad to see him go, but I am excited for him as he heads home to Beaufort County to open a new chapter of his life.”
