Gov. Henry McMaster Appoints Upstate Businessman Charles Dalton to the S.C. Commission on Higher Education

December 14, 2018

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Governor Henry McMaster today announced the appointment of Charles Dalton of Greenville to serve as a member of the Commission on Higher Education. Mr. Dalton, who recently retired as president and CEO of Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative, fills an at-large seat vacated on December 6th by Greenville insurance executive Kenneth Kirkland.

"Charles Dalton is a remarkable leader who has an unmatched record of service and success in business, philanthropy, and in public service," said Gov. Henry McMaster. "He is exactly the caliber of leader we need on the commission as they address the growing affordability crisis at our state’s public colleges and universities."

In addition to serving as president and CEO of Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative, Mr. Dalton has served in leadership roles for numerous state and local organizations throughout his career, including the Better Business Bureau of the Foothills, the Upstate Alliance of South Carolina, the Greenville Chamber of Commerce, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, IPTAY, the Clemson University Foundation, and the South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission.  A graduate of Clemson University, Mr. Dalton currently serves on the Upstate Heart Ball Executive Leadership Team and as Chairman of the Upstate Board of Directors for the American Heart Association.
