Gov. Henry McMaster Suspends Florence County Sheriff Kenny Boone, Appoints Former Sheriff William C. “Billy” Barnes as Replacement

Columbia, S.C. – Immediately following the indictment of Florence County Sheriff Kenny Boone, Governor Henry McMaster issued Executive Order 2019-15, suspending Boone from office and appointing former Florence County Sheriff William C. “Billy” Barnes to serve as sheriff until Boone is acquitted, convicted, the indictment is otherwise disposed of, or until a sheriff is elected and qualifies in the next general election.

Sheriff Barnes served as Florence County Sheriff from 1974 to 1993 and has most recently served as the department’s polygraph examiner.
